School Profile

General Information

The Grammar School was founded in 1963.  The overall aim of the school is to provide both a general and specialized education enabling students to obtain the School’s Leaving Certificate (Apolytirion), International GCSE and GCE Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and Advanced Level examinations.  The Grammar School also serves as a GCE examination centre.  In addition to its academic focus, the School is dedicated to promoting a variety of extra-curricular activities which include charity and community work, sports and other cultural skills.

Admission Policy

The School’s admission policy applies to academically able and promising students irrespective of ethnic background or religion.  Entrance Examinations are held in Spring. Students of the Grammar Junior School who are exempted from the Entrance Examinations.  A student must pass both subjects (Mathematics and Greek for Greek speakers and Mathematics and English for non Greek speakers).   Placement examinations are held for students wishing to enter Classes 2, 3, 4 and 6 only, provided there are vacancies.  These examinations include Mathematics and English as well as an interview.

There are 884 students currently enrolled at our school and are divided into 40 classes in total. 

Academic Information

For the first 3 years all students receive a general education with all lessons conducted in English except Modern Greek, French and Religious Knowledge.  In Class 4 and 5, students follow the International GCSE courses in Mathematics, Modern Greek and English which are obligatory and choose a further 4 elective subject choices.  At the end of Class 5 they take the International GCSE examinations offered by Edexcel Examinations, London. 

In Class 6 and 7, students follow the Advanced Level GCE examination courses in 3 or 4 subjects of their choice.  At the end of Class 6 they take AS Level examinations and at the end of Class 7 they take A2 examinations, resulting in qualifications of the full GCE A Level examinations, again offered by Edexcel Examinations.  Grammar School students also receive a School Leaving Certificate at the end of Class 7.

Extra-Curricular Activities

The Grammar School has a wide range of clubs which include a variety of sports, social work within the community and other skills.  It is our policy to encourage our students to become members of different clubs so that they receive an all-round education and learn to contribute to society in a holistic way.  For example, students can enhance their debating skills in the Debating Club or extend their knowledge of the environment by participating in the Environment Club.  They have the opportunity to volunteer and help the local community through the Social Work Club.  The prestigious Cultural Evening event enables students to realize their potential in music, drama and dance.
